The Justin Foundation Fights Addiction
Excerpt from FREEDOM November—December 2005
Danville, CA, OCTOBER 12, 2005
The Justin Foundation of Danville awarded two educational scholarships for the 2005-06 academic year to students seeking to obtain Certification as Drug Addiction Counselors in the State of California. Cathie Smith, founder of The Justin Foundation, states they “hope to be able to repeat and expand this scholarship award during the next five years”.
This years award recipients are Lacee Gibbs from Palomar College in San Marcos and Linda Wilson-Guptil from U.C. Berkeley Extension in Hayward. Each woman received five-hundred dollars for tuition and books, which is renewable on a semester basis.
The California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) in Sacramento endorsed the alcohol and drug studies program at these colleges. Information on other colleges offering CAADAC recommended AOD programs are available at www.caadac.org.
Ms. Smith of Danville stated that in starting The Justin Foundation she wanted to honor her son Justin’s commitment to recovery from drug addiction by helping as many individuals as possible who are affected by this illness. She believes “one well-educated counselor can help hundreds of people in need”.
The Justin Foundation educational scholarship demonstrates Ms. Smith’s commitment to seeing an increased number of qualified Alcohol and Drug Counselors in the field to work with patients. Scholarship applications for the 2006-07 academic year are available for download at www.thejustinfoundation.org.
